Android Auto & Apple CarPlay Available In San Diego Soon
Chevrolet announced earlier this year that it will offer Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in 14 new 2016 Chevy models. No other automotive brand is availing this technology in as many models as is Chevrolet. Android Auto will be activated via a software update that will be available exclusively to Chevy dealers starting March 2016. Everything needed for the Apple CarPlay interface is already in place or being finalized soon.
Chevrolet has long been an innovator in customer-centric technology. It was the first automotive manufacturer to introduce the Siri Eyes Free feature and the first to offer high-speed 4G LTE Wi-Fi connectivity in its vehicles. It is no surprise that Chevy will also make Android Auto and Apple CarPlay technology available in so many of its new 2016 models. This new feature will not only be available in the highest performance models, like the Corvette Z06 but it will also be available in the least expensive model, the 2016 Chevy Spark.
The new smart phone driven features will work with any new Chevrolet model equipped with Chevy’s eight-inch MyLink system. The systems will allow access to all convenient apps for communication, navigation and entertainment that drivers use on their phones. The feature is activated by a quick USB connection and once enabled, drivers can utilize voice control for sending, reading and replying to text messages as well as accessing maps and activating navigation assistance.
Compatible apps will need to be downloaded to a phone before using. Compatible phones are Androids running Android Lollipop 5.0 operating system or higher and the iPhone 5 or higher.
